1. 8 Newscut (No young post)
*Genres:

4. 1 formal letter
5. 2 of any of the above
*Write 600+ words.
2. 8 Individual Presentations.
Tape and burn them onto a CD-R for submission.
Keep a copy of the passages and your note cards.
Use any of the past papers .
3. Weekly Diary entry
Find exercises/tests/etc. that can help to improve note taking skills on the Internet. Write down:
1. URL
2. what you have learnt
3. Time spent on the exercise
3-minute presentation when they return to school.
The assignments are due on 1st September.

Part I (Reading and Writing)
For the reading and writing part, you need to make use of your South China Morning Post that you should have subscribed to. You need to find EIGHT topics to write on using the newspaper. Use the exercise book. The details of how to complete the exercise are as follows:
*Choose an article from the main papers (that is not the Young Post). The articles must not all be from the same week, try choosing two articles weekly.
*After reading the article, formulate a topic like the one that you find in the AS Use of English Writing question-paper.
*Write out the formulated topic at the top of the page (If you do not do this, the piece will NOT be counted/marked).
*Cut out and paste the article in your book.
*You MUST use the following genres:
1. 2 essays
2. 2 articles
3. 1 informal letter
4. 1 formal letter
5. 2 of any of the above
*Remember to time yourself, 1hr. 15 mins. maximum and you should be writing 600+ words.
Part II (Speaking/Oral)
You must complete 8 Individual Presentations. These MUST be taped and put onto a CD Rom for submission. You must keep a copy of the passages that you have used and your note cards. Use any of the past papers to do this assignment.
Part III (Listening)
Find exercises/tests/etc. on the INTERNET that can help you to improve your note taking skills. Do the exercises and keep a diary entry of the exercise that you have completed, the time you spent on the exercise, and note down what you have learnt. You must write down the websites so that you can share this orally at the start of the term. We will use the Language Lab for this part, when each student will be expected to do a 3-minute presentation on this part of the summer assignment when they return to school.
